What is MIAMI SOUP?
Along with the purchase of the meal, each attendee receives a vote to cast in favor of a proposal for neighbor improvement. The income from the meal becomes part of a grant awarded that very night at the discretion of the dinner guests. MIAMI SOUP is more than food for thought because it enables ideas to be transformed into reality and empowers positive change in a single neighborhood.
Why do we do it?
FEEDING IDEASMIAMI SOUP is an intentionally simple and non-bureaucratic format for the implementation of change at the local level. The setting of a shared meal encourages the open exchange of ideas, the vision for doing, and the funding to make it happen. MIAMI SOUP not only raises money, it provides the pathway to build a network of support that reaches beyond purely monetary assistance. It is “friendraising” at best. Think of MIAMI SOUP as an open platform to discuss new and ongoing projects with audiences, meet new collaborators, and share ways of working together to transform ideas into reality. MIAMI SOUP “feeds ideas” to elevate the quality of neighborhood living. MIAMI SOUP is supported by the Knight Foundation.
Knight Foundation supports transformational ideas that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster the arts. The foundation believes that democracy thrives when people and communities are informed and engaged. For more, visit KnightFoundation.org.
